Bev Burke

Hand Percussion / Vocals

In the heart of melodies and amidst the tunes of classic rock and the blues, Bev found her truest musical self. Born into a home where music was more than just notes – it was a way of life. Her childhood echoed with the sounds of legendary country artists like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lyn, and Merle Haggard, courtesy of her parents' cherished 78s. Meanwhile, her brother introduced her to the revolution of "classic rock," laying the foundation for her diverse musical palette.

From the tender age of 12, Bev's voice soared in her school choir, claiming the coveted position of first chair soprano. This early recognition of her vocal prowess marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. At the age of 13, she seized the spotlight as the lead female singer in her first band, belting out hits from the Go Go's, Joan Jett, and Blondie. It was here that her passion for performing ignited, fueled by the fierce energy of female rock icons.

Drawing inspiration from the raw, unapologetic styles of Janis Joplin, the powerhouse presence of Pat Benatar, and the introspective lyrics of Alanis Morrissette, Bev found her voice in the tapestry of rock and roll. For her, music was more than a mere composition – it was a source of solace and healing. She believes that music possesses the incredible power to evoke emotions, making us smile, or cry, and helping the soul find  comfort in the face of troubles.

Today, as the main background singer and hand percussionist of Against the Wind, Bev's soulful voice and rhythmic beats transport audiences back to the golden era of Bob Seger and classic rock. Her aspiration reaches heights set by the legendary background singer of The Silver Bullet Band, Shaun "Stoney" Murphy. Bev not only emulates that iconic style but also infuses it with her unique essence, creating an unforgettable musical experience. Through her music, Bev continues to prove that melodies are not just heard; they are felt, deep within the soul.
