James West was born into a family where music was not just a passion but a way of life, and he was deeply influenced by his musical heritage. His grandfather, a skilled fiddler, set the stage for the family's musical legacy, and his mother, a self-taught piano player, provided the foundation for James's early musical education.

Growing up, James and his sister transformed their mundane chores into musical duets by singing while they worked. It was during these moments that James discovered his love for harmonies and the power of storytelling through song. At the young age of 12, he received his first guitar and amplifier. Inspired by the tunes of The Monkees, especially the iconic "Last Train to Clarksville," James found his musical calling through the strum of his guitar.

In the 1970s, James was stationed at an Army base in Germany, where he found solace in the music of Bob Seger. The album "Night Moves" became a cherished possession during those years, offering a comforting connection to his far away home. It was the narrative quality of Seger's songs, particularly "Sunspot Baby" and "Night Moves" that captivated James.

In his musical career of 50+ years, James has graced the stage with countless bands, including national recording artists. In Against the Wind, James continues to hone his musical skills, creating incredible harmonies that resonate with emotion and sincerity. Whether he is strumming his guitar or belting out a tune, James pours his heart into every note.  His journey, marked by the harmonies of his youth and the narratives of Bob Seger, stands as a testament to the enduring power of a melody and the profound impact that a song can have on a person's life.
